In collaboration with the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the organization New Agriculture New Generation, the important event “Promoting Sustainable Small Scale Aquaculture in the Mediterranean” will take place in the Museum of Cycladic Art, on Tuesday, 11 June 2024 at 17:00, focusing on the sustainability of the small-scale aquaculture sector with international interest.
The event will announce the launch of the business development program: Promoting the sustainability of small-scale aquaculture in the southeastern Mediterranean, which will support 5 small-scale aquaculture units, which were selected after an open call in their country to participate in the program.
The selected aquaculture units come from the following countries: Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia and from 12/6 to 21/6 their representatives will attend training workshops that will cover topics such as business development, innovation, sustainability, technological trends, safety, and sales. In addition, they will visit model aquaculture and aquaponics units, as well as research laboratories, to learn about Greek expertise in the sector.
At the event on Tuesday, June 11th, the 5 selected units will be announced and awarded, followed by three roundtable discussions on the future of small-scale aquaculture, with industry executives, scientists and researchers, and entrepreneurs. The event is supported by the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (ΕΛΟΠΥ) and the Panhellenic Association of Fish Technologists (ΠΑΣΤΙ).
